Create HEALTH
Colorado Rural Education and Training Enterprise for Health
Research shows that too many students with skill potential required in health careers are lost at every stage of the "long pipeline" from the pre‑college level, through college and through the health professional schools. The San Luis Valley as one solution to this "leaky pipeline" administers Create HEALTH. This program helps transform this "leaky pipeline" into an effective means to enable students, grades K through 16, to obtain the education and exposure required to enter into the health professions. San Luis Valley elementary school students are provided the program “Great Hospital Adventure”. Junior high schools provided the “Health Careers – Do You Know What They Are?” Fourteen San Luis Valley high school counselors are provided a “High School Counselor Health Careers Seminar/Training”. San Luis Valley high school students are provided a presentation on “Health Careers – Is This For Me?” These presentations dove tail into the identification of students who may be interested in applying for the “Grow Your Own” – Summer Health Careers Institute/Student Health Careers Guild. College students in health career tracks from Adams State College and Trinidad State Junior College are provided a tour, “The Health Careers Field Trip” as an incentive for local higher education health careers students to pursue and receive an extracurricular benefit not currently in their academic plan.
